Famous as the home of ESPN Winter X Games through 2012 and voted #1 by Transworld Snowboarding Magazine Reader's Poll for best pipe and park, Buttermilk built it's 60-year legacy on wide-open and gently rolling trails that cater to beginners and families. Perfectly groomed slopes, gentle powder and glades, combined with a great ski/snowboard school and a 22-foot superpipe in the legendary terrain park make Buttermilk a secret gem.
Aspen Skiing Company (ASC) will invest nearly $8 million in on-mountain improvements this year and has invested more than $130 million over the previous six seasons, giving guests the most seamless skiing/riding experience in the industry. This includes 11 new lifts with two new gondolas, the industry-leading Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center, three new restaurants, additional terrain plus the new Snowmass base village. In addition, the first phase of the $18 million room renovation at The Little Nell hotel (Aspen’s only five-star, five-diamond hotel) was completed in the fall.
Buttermilk's Winter Resident -
The Northern Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium gnoma) makes its home in dense woodlands and mountains on the western edge of North America. It is most active in the morning and just before nightfall and can be recognized by its gray-brown coloring and two eye-like spots. The call of the owl is a short whistled "hoo" or "hoo hoo" repeated in a series. The Northern Pygmy-Owl can be seen on sunny days off of Tiehack Parkway.
