Auden Schendler
As Executive Director of Sustainability, Auden Schendler oversees Aspen Skiing Company's environmental efforts, corporate contributions, and civic engagement. He also serves as Director of Aspen Sustainability Associates, a green business consulting practice. Auden was reviously a research associate in corporate sustainability and newsletter editor at Rocky Mountain Institute, a LEED certified professional, Auden has worked as a residential energy auditor, high-school math and English teacher, Outward Bound Instructor, Emergency Medical Technician, planning and zoning commissioner, and energy efficiency researcher. Aspen Skiing Company's sustainability work has been covered widely in magazines including Outside, Fast Company, Businessweek and Travel and Leisure, on Nightline and The Jim Lehrer News Hour. Named a "Climate Crusader" in TIME magazine's 2006 special issue on climate change, Auden speaks internationally on sustainable business issues, and has lectured at Yale, Harvard, Bowdoin and Colorado College. His writing on sustainable business, life in the West, and mountaineering have been published in journals ranging from Harvard Business Review to the L.A. Times, Salon.com, Slate, Scientific American, the Philadelphia Enquirer, Paddler, and three anthologies. Matthew Hamilton
Matthew Hamilton is Sustainability Manager and Executive Director of the Environment Foundation, which has donated more than $1.4 million over the past decade. Matthew oversees ASC's community philanthropy, and runs ASC's day-to-day environmental programs, including the monthly Greenletter, and GREENTRACK, ASC's ISO 14001 certified environmental management system. Matthew is also consultant with Aspen Sustainability Associates, and has lectured nationally and internationally on ASC's work. Previously, Matthew was a Research Officer at The Piton Foundation, working with low income neighborhoods on issues of education reform, affordable housing and economic development. Prior to that, he worked for Share Our Strength, a national anti-hunger anti-poverty group; the Independent Sector, a national association of nonprofits and foundations, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (on a project called Enterprise for the Environment), for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, and for Middlebury College. He currently serves on the board of the Colorado Youth Corps Association and Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado. Matthew has a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies and Political Science from Middlebury College and a Masters in Public Policy from Georgetown University where he focused on nonprofit management.
