What if I've already purchased a lift ticket, but want to buy a lesson that includes a lift ticket?

No problem. When purchasing your lesson at the resort, simply take your lift ticket to any ticket window. The ticket agent will scan your lift ticket, removing the correct number of days from your pre-purchased lift ticket and applying the dollar value of those days toward your lesson tickets.

Why should I buy ski and snowboard lessons in advance?

By purchasing in advance, you will save time and money. We'll deliver your lesson tickets (plus lift tickets and rental vouchers, if included) to your local lodging in advance so you can head straight for the lesson meeting place. You don't have to spend precious vacation time organizing your lessons at the resort and standing in line. Unused lesson tickets are fully refundable, so there is no risk in pre-purchasing!

How do I sign up for a class?

Should I reserve my equipment in advance?

By reserving your equipment in advance, you can relax knowing you'll have the right gear for your ability and preferences waiting for you. Even better, when you reserve your equipment at least 7 days in advance it's cheaper and you'll save on Standard- to Premium-level packages. Through Four-Mountain Sports or D & E Ski & Snowboard Shop, which has 5 locations at Snowmass, Aspen, Buttermilk and Highlands, we guarantee your gear will be where you want it.

When is equipment included with lessons?

Like lift tickets, equipment rental is included in the price of Beginner's Magic and the Kids' & Teens' First Turns programs. However, you must take the rental voucher that we provide to a rental shop to be fitted for equipment prior to the start of your lesson. For all other lessons, equipment must be purchased separately. For ages 6 and under children's programs, special children's equipment is available through the programs for $18/day. Helmets are $6/day. Simply drop your child off, and we will take care of fitting the equipment. Equipment reservations are required for these programs.

Can the lift ticket included with Beginner's Magic and Kids' & Teens' First Turns be used on all lifts?

Yes. However, during the hours of class, you must be with an instructor to board the lift. If you want to take a run or two after your lesson, the lift tickets are valid for all lifts.

When are lift tickets included with a lesson?

Lift tickets are included with the following programs:

  • Beginner's Magic adult ski and snowboard program for levels 1-4
  • Kids' & Teens' First Turns
  • All children's programs for ages 6 and under
  • Select specialty programs and camps

What is Electronic Will Call?

E-Will Call is our electronic "warehouse" for tickets purchased in advance, ready to be picked up. We have express Will Call windows at the Gondola Ticket Office in Aspen and at the Ticket Pavilion on the Snowmass Village Mall. However, lift, and lesson tickets reserved in Will Call can be picked up at any ticket window.

How do I know which group I will be in based on my ability? What about my kids?

Adults - Whether you're taking Beginner's Magic (levels 1-4) or one of our upper-level classes (Small Group Lessons, Mountain Explorers, Women's Edge, etc.), the pros will ask you a few questions about your skiing or snowboarding experience, and place you in a group to get started. They'll then assess your abilities and goals, and form a final group with others with similar abilities.

Kids - Kids and teens are first grouped by age. Then, after a run or two, individual groups are arranged based on ability. Siblings and friends can be in the same group if they are no more than one year apart and have similar abilities.

Can I ski with my kids in a lesson?

The best format for families to ski or snowboard together is a Private Lesson (up to five guests per pro). We discourage parents from "shadowing" kids' and teens' classes so that the kids aren't distracted and the pro maintains a cohesive group.

Can my 4-year-old ski with my 5-year-old (or 6-year-old with 7-year-old)?

We have determined that there are definitive physiological and psychological differences in children between the ages of 4 & 5 and 6 & 7.  Also, children over the age of 6 are allowed to ride the lift by themselves, while an adult must accompany children over the age of 6.  The older child may ski in the younger program, but the younger child may not ski with the older group.

How much skiing will my child actually do?

All of our kids' programs are designed around a full day of skiing.  The older kids and teens (ages 7-18) will take short a.m. and p.m. breaks and about a ½ hour lunch.  Children ages 5-6 will take slightly longer breaks and about an hour lunch, and those ages 3-4 will take at least a ½ hour a.m. and p.m. break with an hour lunch.  Of course, we will not force children to ski if they do not want to, and we have indoor facilities for them to play or rest if necessary.  We will, however, encourage them to join their class and ski as often as possible.

What if I already have my skis (Beginner’s MagicTM)?

Because this program is so highly discounted, the equipment portion of the package is at a zero-dollar value.  With or without skis, the price is the same.  This may be a good opportunity to try some shaped skis!

Can I meet the pro for my private lesson at a different location?

In order to avoid confusion or missed time trying to hook up with an instructor, the first day of each private lesson must meet at the designated area.  After the first day, the guest may certainly work out a different meeting place personally with the pro.

Why does it cost more for my younger child (Grizzlies, Big Burn Bears) than my older child (Kids’/Teens’ Groups)?

Younger children have smaller class sizes, meaning lower student/pro ratios.  Also, older children must still buy a lift ticket!

Why does a 7-year-old have to go to Bears on Boards (BOB) or Pandas on Boards (POB)?

The average 7-year-old is more like his/her younger classmates (ages 5 & 6) than the 8-and-above group with respect to coordination, muscle control, maturity and equipment needs.  The 7-year-old snowboarders require more one-on-one attention, which they will receive in BOB and POB since the class size is limited to 3 students.  Seven-year-olds have a better experience in the younger group, with the pros specially trained for this age.

Should my child take a day off during the week?

We discourage this.  The children's programs are paced at a five-day rate, so the children should not feel tired.  Also, if children take a day off in the middle of the week, they will return to a new group of kids and a new instructor, as their old class will have progressed past them.

What if it is snowing?

We teach our lessons in all conditions; classes are never cancelled due to snow or cold.  Dress for the weather, wear goggles, and enjoy the chance to ski in fresh powder!

Why can’t my 3-hour private lesson start at 10 a.m.?

The pros' schedules dictate they be back for afternoon lessons by noon.  Guests can start a 3-hour lesson whenever they want, but the morning lessons must end at 12:00 p.m.

Can people of different abilities take a private lesson together?

We can make it work, but it is usually difficult for the more advanced skier/snowboarder.  The lesson must take place on terrain that the lower level can tolerate, thus the lesson is dictated by the less experienced slider and is not as effective for whomever is better.
