Volunteer Policy
Aspen Skiing Company believes that the health of the communities in which we operate is critical to our success. One way we can strengthen local communities is through volunteerism. Volunteering builds:
- A cohesive team of employees
- An ethic of service
- Measurable and sustainable impact in communities where we live and work
- Opportunity to develop leadership skills
- Strengthened relationships with stakeholders (from friends & family to community & business partners)
Definitions
Volunteer activities are defined as the contribution of uncompensated work done for a public or private non-profit organization or community group for the benefit of the community, not including service required through Colorado’s Alternative Sentencing Program.

- ASC organized activities (trail building, Habitat for Humanity build days, adopt a family programs).
- Education-related (tutoring, mentoring, coaching at local schools or after-school programs, volunteering at your child’s school).
- Environmental (stream monitoring, data entry for a nonprofit, etc.).
- Health Work (blood drive, hospital candy-striping, etc.).
- Human Service (food bank, disaster relief, working with elderly, disabled, or homeless populations, etc.).
- Beautifying the physical space of eligible non-profits (carpentry, landscaping, painting, etc.).
- Non-Profit Board Stewardship (consulting with and coaching non-profit or community agencies).
- Cultural (Aspen Music Festival, Aspen Ideas Festival, Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet).
- Community Events (USA Pro Cycling Challenge, Aspen Food and Wine Classic).
Policy
Full-time year-round employees are eligible for up to 16 hours per year of paid time for community service during regularly scheduled work hours.
- Volunteer time can be used during a regularly scheduled workday. This benefit cannot be used during the off season when an employee is not scheduled to work and would not otherwise be compensated for hours worked.
- Unused paid time-off for volunteering cannot be carried over to the next calendar year and is not paid out to the employee upon termination.
- Paid volunteer time must be approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor, recognizing that appropriate staffing for expected business levels is the first priority. ASC reserves the right to defer volunteering to more convenient times.
- Employees must report their volunteer hours like they do work or vacation days, and email volunteer@aspensnowmass.com with hours worked and the name of the beneficiary.
